This entire plan developed from one question: "How do you get a cow into the headgate?" So we got together with a couple of cattlemen and developed a way to move cattle efficiently into the holding pens and then on into the headgate. The basic idea is to use the panel attached to the calving pen as a funnel. Use it to block the headgate and to direct the cow into the entry gate on the calving pen. When used with the pen gate, the cow has only one choice - in the pen. By the time the cow notices the headgate, you already have the sweep gate locked into position behind her.
The whole idea behind this set-up is to make your job easier. It will also give you peace of mind - if you are away from the ranch, the person left in charge of your cows will be able to safely get a cow locked into the headgate. From the safer work environment, to adding multiple uses to existing buildings, this design will help you operate more efficiently.
The best part of this facility is that you can use your existing panels or add more as needed. It can be customized to any configuration to work with your buildings or equipment. So, once you own the Trailhand Calving Pen, you will immediately be able to take advantage of this efficient design.
